MICHAEL FRASSINELLI

Michael Frassinelli studied art at the University of Connecticut, with a focus on design and sculpture, receiving his BFA in 1986. He has been a prop maker, set designer, mask-maker, free-lance artist and ship’s carpenter, and has worked with a variety of people, from Berkeley California's Shotgun Players and The San Francisco Ballet and to Vermont’s Bread and Puppet Theatre, a German theater production company, and a Balinese mask-carver. Although he has worked in a variety of art mediums over the last 40 years his recent work from the Legend of the Pianistas series which includes sculpture made entirely out of piano parts and photorealistic cabinets of curiosity. Since 2002, Frassinelli has taught at the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where he is Chair of the Visual Arts Dept. and Director of the Dana Hall Art Gallery.

Found, rescued and upcycled materials are given new life in this 3D assemblage which draws its inspiration from the timeless and sentimental gifts brought home by Nantucket’s 19th century sea voyagers for their loved ones! Bring your tidbits or scavenge from a collection of odds and ends supplied by the instructor and NISDA. Art materials provided by NISDA.

MONOPRINTING, PAINTING, STENCILING + STAMPING Decorative Arts Design + Studio Techniques Instructor: Kathy Kelm Days // Times: July 8 // July 15 // July 22 // July 29 Tuesday Afternoons, 1:00 pm–4:00 pm Tuition: $85 per class // $ 300 for all 4 classes (includes studio materials) Delve into colorful monoprinting with Nantucket’s nature, direct painting,stenciling and stamping techniques. This workshop explores fundamental elements of pattern and design layouts while discovering and creating your own personal motifs and ornamentation.
