Enjoy creating with Clay!
We will explore basic techniques as we hand build using clay slabs, coils and pinch pots which can be applied to sculpture and inventive projects! An introductory wheel throwing project starts with centering the clay and progressing to simple forms such as cylinders and bowls. Learn how to trim, alter and decorate your pieces with various glazing techniques!
We will begin by looking at existing comic books and graphic novels for inspiration, and then segue into making our own. Topics covered will include character design, crafting panel compositions, and creating a compelling narrative. This class will focus on traditional methods of comic making with pen and ink, but the techniques learned can be applied to digital creation as well. The length of your comic is up to you-you. You can make your own “Sunday strip,” craft a mini-zine, or draw the first chapter of your comics saga! Come with ideas, and leave with a finished comic.
Young Artists will gain inspiration and learn from nature as they develop drawing skills and create art in the landscape traveling to island sites they will enjoy island settings, and are inspired by our island’s natural world; Nantucket beaches, woods, and meadows.

Assemblage is a technique that allows the artist the latitude of using found or upcycled objects, parts, or materials, to create something altogether new and inventive. The resulting object(s) can celebrate pure form or refer to something meaningful, symbolic or known. As described on the MOMA site: "Assemblage art gives objects new meanings, makes creative connections between disparate elements, and elevates non-art materials into the realm of art." No prior experience or art training is required to participate. Tools and supplies are provided by NISDA. Students may bring in their own items, bits and pieces, and recycled materials of interest to use.
